Privacy Policy — Tape

Tape is a media player. The app contains and distributes no music and has no catalog of its own. To listen to anything, you connect your own audio server at an address you enter yourself.

1. What the developer collects

Nothing. Tape has no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party data-collecting SDKs. The app sends nothing to the developer and nothing to any third party: it talks only to the server whose address you entered, and the developer has no access to that server.

That server is not us. What it records is described in section 4 — and what the app tells it is described in section 3, in full.

2. What the app stores on your device

Only what the player needs, and only locally:

• the server address you entered;
• your session access token (in the iOS Keychain);
• your player settings, queue, history and playback position.

This data stays on your iPhone, is never sent to the developer, and is removed when you delete the app.

3. What the app sends to your server

The app connects only to the server whose address you provided. Beyond fetching what you asked to see and the audio itself, it reports the following to that same server:

• Playback — that a track was played, once playback passes a counted threshold, and your position in the current track, on a timer and when the app goes to the background. This is what makes history and "resume where you left off" work, and it happens without a separate action from you.
• Sign-in and session upkeep, if you signed in — refreshing your session token when the server says it has expired; while a Telegram sign-in is waiting for the code, asking the server whether it has arrived; and, when you open the profile screen, asking the server to re-fetch your Telegram profile picture (at most once every 45 seconds).
• Everything you do on purpose — likes, playlists, a display name, support messages, account deletion. These are sent because you tapped something, and not otherwise.

Diagnostics are never sent by themselves. A report goes out only when you tap Send logs in the profile screen, or agree to a request from that server's administrator. It carries the app's in-memory log buffer (up to 500 recent entries), your device model — the hardware identifier, not the device's name — the iOS version and the app version. There is no text field: nothing you write is attached. The report goes to the server you are connected to, like everything else.

If you never connect a server, the app makes no network requests at all.

4. The server you connect to

The server is a separate party that we do not operate. It may have its own rules and its own privacy practices, including logging your activity. Data handling on the server side is the responsibility of its operator, not of the Tape app.

5. Device permissions

The app does not request access to location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or health data, and it sends no push notifications. Playback uses background audio.

6. Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data about anyone, including children.

7. Changes

We may update this policy. The current version, with its date, is always available on this page.
